Tasiilaq

Tasiilaq is the hub of East Greenland, a town with about 2000 inhabitants. The name translates into “the place with a lake” because of the shape of the fjord. It is about 100 km south of the Arctic Circle on an island formerly known as Ammassalik or Angmagssalik, whose meaning is “the place with capelin”. Tasiilaq belongs to the Sermersooq municipality which includes also the capital Nuuk on the west coast of Greenland. Supply ships to Tasiilaq come usually from July to October.
